The next components of the layer effects are the transformers.
Basically they allow you to modify the geometry of your layer.
The first one is the matrix.
A matrix allows you to generate a pattern of your media.
You can change the number of rows and columns of your pattern.
You can also create a 3D pattern by adding copies along the Z axis.
By using extrusion it is also possible to generate cubical patterns.
It is also possible to manage symmetry of the pattern using the flipping buttons.
Of course a transformer can be combined with all the other effects that we saw before: you can move it,
Rotate it
Change its transparency
Apply pixel effects
And so on…
The next transformer is the patch.
A patch basically maps your media on a very small grid of polygons.
First of all it allows you to represent your media in different filling mode like:
Wire-frame.
Dot.
Or simply filled.
In wire-frame and dot mode you can change the thickness of the lines or points.
It allows you also to reshape your movie:
In a sphere.
Or in cylinders.
Also the patch can generate much more complex 3D shapes using displacement mapping.
This technique extrudes the patch using the lightness of the media.
With properly prepared media, you can really generate 3D geometry on the fly.
A noise effect can also be used to send random amplitude on the patch.
It is also possible to map the sound input waveform to the patch.
The last transformer is a particle engine.
Modul8 includes a full particle engine, which allows you to generate all kind of particle effects using any kind of media.
It supports gravity, speed and many parameters for subtle control over the particles effects.
Another time, the particle transformer can be combined with other effects like transparency, auto-rotation, etc. |
